Many moons ago I went to college for part of my first degree in upstate NY; at Thanksgiving a friend and I visited NYC. We climbed to the top of Lady Liberty and enjoyed fabulous views of the NY skyline from inside Liberty’s crown. This piece celebrates that time in my life, that trip and New Year NYC fireworks at the end of my studies. I created the original drawing of the Statue of Liberty using a vintage dip pen and acrylic ink, after carefully cutting it out I overlaid it onto a background of vibrant splattered watercolour ink, celebratory fireworks. If you look closely you’ll see that there are no straight lines in the drawing; it’s made up entirely of tiny inked circles of various sizes and thicknesses to produce a chain maille effect; a nod towards the bittersweet irony of people trying to live the American Dream and the wonderful bounty and liberties that it offers, contrasting with the incredible constraints of living in America; a land that is not always so free.

Finished with a stunning glossy coating, slightly bevelled edges and rounded corners, these coasters are easy care; simply wipe them clean with a damp cloth to keep them looking brand new! Recyclable. Coasters are sold individually (unless specified as part of a collection) and are boxed in a plain brown postal box for shipping. Coasters are not gift boxed unless this option has been selected.
