In 1485, Henry VII took the crown from Richard III. His father was Edmund Tudor, his mother Margaret Beaufort from the House of Lancaster. In 1486, Henry married Elizabeth of York and adopted the Tudor rose, a double rose combining the white rose of the House of York and the red rose of the House of Lancaster. Since this time, the Tudor rose has been used by every British monarch as the traditional floral heraldic emblem of England. Drawn in acrylic ink, using a vintage dip pen inherited from my mum, this Tudor Rose was hand coloured using acrylic inks.

This glossy hardboard coaster has been reproduced from one of my original dip pen and ink stippled dot pieces featuring a reversible black and white Tudor rose; it can be displayed in the portrait position, with a single pointed leaf in the upwards direction as the Lancashire rose, or conversely, the magnet can be flipped 180 degrees, with the single pointed leaf pointing downwards, to give you the rose of Yorkshire. Inspired from what I see in my garden, on my field work, travels and from life experiences, I work only from photographs that I have taken or sketches that I have made in the field. This coaster will withstand the hottest of brews or the coldest of cocktails and is easy to care for; simply wipe it clean with a cloth.

Coasters are made from a combination of 90% hardboard with 10% sawmill wood fibre waste making them very sturdy and robust. Finished with a stunning glossy coating, slightly bevelled edges and rounded corners, these coasters are easy care; simply wipe them clean with a damp cloth to keep them looking brand new! Recyclable. Coasters are sold individually (unless specified as part of a collection) and are boxed in a plain brown postal box for shipping. Coasters are not gift boxed unless this option has been selected.
