Artify your morning cuppa, workplace brew or evening tipple! This set of four glossy hardboard coasters have been created from some of my original hand marbled and collaged pieces; they will withstand the hottest of brews or the coldest of cocktails and are easy to care for; simply wipe them clean with a damp cloth.
Based on the mosaic tiled floors inside the Manchester Town Hall, this bee featured on an original piece of artwork that I created over an 18 month period, using recycled newspaper cuttings and hand marbled papers collaged together to recreate a section of the mosaic tiled floor.
10% of the net profit of my Manchester Bee items is donated to The Lord Mayor of Manchester’s Charity Appeal Trust.
Ideal for: Anyone who loves British icons, design icons, Manchester, the Manchester Bee, bees, travel, history, all things British, UK, collecting coasters, art.
Based on the mosaic tiled floors inside the Manchester Town Hall, this mixed media Manchester Bee collage was created over an 18-month period using recycled newspaper cuttings, hand marbled papers and foam printed impressions to create the cracks and gaps between the mosaic pieces.
The bee has been the symbol of Manchester since 1847, during the Industrial Revolution and in which the city played a leading part and was a hive of activity. The bee represents the hard-working industrious nature of the city and its people; you might have heard someone being industrious and hardworking called a ‘busy bee’.
In the background I’ve collaged as many newspaper cuttings featuring people, places and phrases heard in and/or associated with Manchester, as I could find. From football clubs to suburbia, whether you’re a red or a blue, the people of Manchester stand together, a city united and, of course, always ready to make a brew.
Coasters are made from a combination of 90% hardboard with 10% sawmill wood fibre waste making them very sturdy and robust. Finished with a stunning glossy coating, slightly bevelled edges and rounded corners, these coasters are easy care; simply wipe them clean with a damp cloth to keep them looking brand new! Recyclable.
Coasters are sold individually (unless specified as part of a collection) and are boxed in a plain brown postal box for shipping. Coasters are not gift boxed unless this option has been selected.
